Beautiful Things

This is a post of encouragement. You want to follow the Lord and you are trying, but sometimes you fall and fail. Sometimes you forget to pray. Sometimes you are not being love to those around you. So what?? You want to follow the Lord and you are trying, right?! All that the Lord needs to work through you is a willing heart! He is all-merciful and is ready to forgive as soon as we ask. He is not surprised by our weakness and failures and He makes all things new!

Maybe some of you have heard the song Beautiful Things by Gungor. The chorus goes like this:

You make beautiful things
You make beautiful things out of the dust
You make beautiful things
You make beautiful thing out of us

The lines are so simple, yet so true. They are true, but they are so easy to forget! I can’t tell you how many times I fall and instead of getting back up, I stay down. I stay down in the dust, wallowing in self-pity and beating myself up. I think that I am worthless because of how imperfect I am. I have the desire to be holy and to be Love, but when it comes down to it, I’m just not there yet! And because I’m not there yet, I let discouragement get the best of me. I walk around with the burden of trying to be Love even though it is not my burden to carry. It’s as if I’m trying to be Julianna’s love instead of the Lord’s Love. Let the Lord live in you and have His way with you. If you try to do it on your own power, you will always come up short because what you need is something supernatural.

Sisters, the enemy wants us to focus on our weaknesses, shortcomings, failures and faults. He wants to lead us to discouragement. He wants us to give up. He wants us to get to the point where we say “I can’t do this anymore.” Be on your guard! May we not forget that following the Lord is hard work and is not for the fainthearted! There is not much more I want to say. I just want to remind you that the Lord is pleased by the very fact that you are trying. He can work with that. Following Him is not an easy task and the challenge to take up our cross every single day may seem like a daunting one, but He promises to be with us always. He will never fail you or forsake you. No matter what happens today, do not give up.

“Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We only have today. Let us begin.”
-St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta
