Meet Our Team

Debbie Herbeck | Co-Founder and Executive Director

What do you do for the BLR? It's all hands on deck for us here! I help shape and steer the vision for Be Love and then implement that vision by planning our events, speaking at retreats, blogging, communicating with moms, training our BLR leaders, leading small groups and mission trips, directing Pine Hills Girls' Camp,  and trying to personally love each young woman who comes to our events.

What inspires you: I am inspired by Love—not the concept, a theory or ideal— but the lived-out expression of love in every day life, however messy or imperfect that may be. I am very inspired when I witness others encounter God’s love in a personal and transformative way, and when I see young women catch a vision for who they truly are and begin to walk in that freedom. I'm inspired by my own children and the ways they are saying yes to Love in their own lives.

What do you do when you’re not working on BLR? I love being with my little grandchildren, cooking in my awesome kitchen, working barefoot in my garden, playing tennis, reading, writing, going on mission trips, and planning Pine Hills Girls' Camp.

Favorite Love Revolutionary: Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta

Elizabeth Muise | Creative Director

What do you do for the BLR? The joy of my job is that I’m constantly learning new skills because I get to do a little bit of everything. However, my main role is to basically make BLR beautiful by creating the graphics, running social media, maintaining the website and blog, and designing print pieces and merchandise. I’m also involved in the planning and running of events, speaking at retreats, inputting financial information, and most importantly, loving each person that is placed in my path on the journey to heaven!

What inspires you? BEAUTY. Passionate artists who create, a thought provoking conversation, an engaging book, a well written article, soul-moving music, carefree dancing, hearty laughter, fellow humans who are living authentically, nature in all its glory, and the lives of the saints.

What do you do when you’re not working on BLR? When I’m not working on BLR, you’ll find me curled up in a corner with a cup o’ Joe and a good book, sitting at my easel drawing, walking barefoot outside, playing with my godson, having an epic dance party with my family or friends, shopping to increase my book collection (fun fact: I hate clothes shopping), laughing at stupid memes or videos, or engaging in a heart-to-heart.

Favorite Love Revolutionary? Our Blessed Mother, my strong mom, St. Catherine of Siena, St. Mother Teresa, Bl. Pier Giorgio Frassati, and St. JPII.

Molly Marrow | Worship Leader

What do you do for the BLR? My primary role at BLR is to lead the young women into worshiping our Creator. Along with this I will be mentoring the girls in aspects of faith and music. This includes being on the creative side of planning retreats/ events, speaking, and helping in any other area I am needed to further the ministry. Most importantly, loving all of the young women who are a part of the Be Love Revolution where they are at.

What inspires you? I am inspired by people who are on fire for God.  The ones who's hearts long to serve and know Him intimately.  Their striving to bring souls into His kingdom reminds of why we are all on this earth.  I am also inspired by music.  I believe God gifted us with music to transcend our hearts and our prayers.  What a beautiful glimpse it gives us into the heavens.

What do you do when you’re not working on BLR? When I'm not working, you can find me writing a song or enjoying the company of other people. I love spending quality time with my family and friends (especially my nieces and nephews), watching/ going to the movies(usually sneaking in ice cream and candy), reading a book in a comfy chair, listening/ getting obsessed with new music, traveling, laughing, and being inspired by talks/podcasts on YouTube (usually by Fr. Mike).

Favorite Love Revolutionary? St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta, St. Therese of Lisieux, St. Padre Pio, and St. JPII

Natalia Collins | Mission Coordinator

What do you do for the BLR? My main role for BLR is expanding the “Be Love” branch. I am working to increase the number of mission trips and service opportunities for young women to get involved in. We are working on growing the number of mission trips to Mexico City and are hoping to other international sites as well (*stay tuned*). There are some opportunities to serve in Detroit as well so we would like to offer girls a chance to provide more regular service to our local brothers and sisters. I also help with the organizing and running of retreats, small groups, and events as well as providing social media and tech support.

What inspires you? Laughter! I love seeing joy radiate in people and then watching it become contagious to everyone around them. There is a freedom in laughter and it allows people to experience a glimpse of the beauty of who God created them to be.

What do you do when you’re not working on BLR? Quality time is my love language so you most likely will find me spending time with my friends and/or family. I also enjoy playing sports, going on mission trips, visiting new places, exercising, reading (when I make time for it), attending fun events around town, and praying!

Favorite Love Revolutionary: I agree with all of the women my lovely coworkers chose! Another woman who inspires me with her ability to spread the love of Jesus to every person she encounters is Katie Davis. If you don’t know who she is, look her up!

Melisa Carroll | Blog and Development

What do you do for BLR? I am the "blog mistress." I manage the BLR blog (as well as write a few posts myself). I also help with development, administrative tasks, brainstorming ideas for events, giving talks, helping with retreats, organizing small groups, prayer ministry, and whatever else will help the BLR be successful and share the love of Christ! I very strongly believe that the best way to bring anyone to Christ is to love them, right where they're at and without holding back, so I try (even though I often fail) to Be Love to everyone I meet.

What inspires you? Music: "Music is well said to be the speech of angels. In fact, nothing among the utterances of man is felt to be so divine. It brings us closer to the infinite." -Thomas Carlyle
Nature: "In His hands are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to Him. The sea is His, for He made it, and His hands formed the dry land." -Psalm 95: 4-5
Art/Beauty: "Art and the Saints are the greatests apologetics for our faith." -Pope Benedict XVI
People: "There is nothing on this earth more to be prized than true friendship." -St. Thomas Aquinas

What do you do when you're not working on BLR? I teach middle school Language Arts, devour books (especially fiction), dance ballet, hang out with my husband, take walks, cuddle my cat, eat (dairy-free) ice-cream, belt out my favorite music while driving, take pictures of nature (especially flowers), talk and talk and talk with my friends, and strive to become better friends with Jesus every day.

Favorite Love Revolutionary? St. Therese of Lisieux. "Remember that nothing is small in the eyes of God. Do all that you do with love."

Emily Messiter | Intern

What do you do for BLR?  I am so excited to be the BLR intern! I can’t wait to find out exactly what this means...but my lovely predecessor Therese Benz tells me that I will be sending emails, organizing merchandise, baking delicious snacks for Beloved, and helping out with retreats and whatever else is needed.

What inspires you? People who embrace what it is to be human. People who know who they are, who notice the beauty of everyday life, who are quick to affirm others, and who live out the virtue of hospitality. And people who are never afraid of giving too much because they are in love with a generous God. Also inspiring to me are long conversations around the dinner table, words spoken in truth and love, and the serenity of being awake for the sunrise.

What do you do when you're not working on BLR? When I’m not working for BLR, you can find me talking to myself in Spanish, translating conversations between English and Spanish, reading a literary classic in Spanish, or experimenting with all the ways sweet potatoes can be eaten. I also dabble in piano and guitar, enjoy sunrise runs on dirt roads, love quality prayer time with Scripture and my journal, and am always down for a cup of coffee and a heart-to-heart with family and new or old friends.

Favorite Love Revolutionary: Madre Ines! If you don’t know her, let’s go to a coffee shop and I’ll tell you all about her, or, even better, come to Mexico with me and you can see this inspiring revolutionary at work!!

Julianna Macari | Co-Founder

What do you do for the BLR? Since we are such a small organization, I find that we all do a little bit of everything! I find that most of what we do involves event planning--retreats, day-long events, our BeLoved events, Pine Hills Camp. There is so much that goes into making sure the events are a success--power points, audio visual needs, talks, music, merchandise--and I have my hand in a little bit of everything. I look over the website and blog and enjoy thinking about the creative side of what we do. I lead the praise and worship music for our events and usually sing some of my own songs too.

What inspires you? So many things! But off the top of my head: beauty in nature, people who follow their dreams, a good love story, music of all kinds, the change of seasons, Italy, fellowship with friends.

What do you do when you’re not working on BLR? When I’m not working you will find me talking someone’s ear off, eating or trying to create something delicious to eat, creating a clean and peaceful home (with lots of candles), hurting my voice by singing too loudly, attempting to exercise, enjoying the rare Sunday morning my husband has off, and suffering from a severe case of wanderlust.

Favorite Love Revolutionary: My mom, Linda Marcarelli. She’s a superhero and she’s the first one who taught me that Love is the answer.
